Sport and Physical Education
To align with the government’s Smart Moves program, all classes engage in physical activity each day (this includes a specialist P.E. lesson). To assist in their social and physical development, all students are expected to participate in all physical activities including Inter-house competitions. A Doctor’s Certificate is required for continuous non-participation in Physical Education, which is the Key Learning Area and an assessable curriculum area, or in other sporting activities. Regular inter-school and intra-school sport is organised for Years 4,5 and 6 on Friday afternoons.
Swimming
Swimming instruction will be provided under Education Queensland’s Learn to Swim Program. At Mt Gravatt East, all classes will engage in swimming instruction in either Term 1 or 4 at the Sam Riley & Brisbane City Council Mt Gravatt East Pool. A swim club also operates at the facility.
Children change for swimming at school and walk to the onsite pool. Students from Mt Gravatt East State School will have free access to the pool for swimming lessons. The children also have the opportunity to attend swimming lessons for a cost with the Swim School coaches or swim with our Physical Education teacher.
